How to Replace an XBox 360 Power Supply

2. Turn your Xbox upside down. There are four screws under the rubber feet of the machine. First, remove the rubber feet. Then, use your Torx 20 screwdriver to remove the screws. Also remove the two screws under the serial number sticker and one under the Microsoft warranty sticker.

3. Turn the Xbox over carefully and lift up the top of the machine. You will now be able to see the innards of the machine.

4. You will see the IDE cable, or integrated drive electronics cable, attached to the hard drive. Remove the IDE cable. You will now have access to a Torx 10 screw that you will remove. Remove the hard drive power cable, then lift up the plastic hard drive tray to remove the drive.

5. Remove the two Torx 10 screws from the sides of the DVD drive tray. Remove the DVD IDE cable. Remove the DVD drive from the machine. When lifting up the DVD drive, remove the yellow power cable, making sure to do it gently as not to break it.

6. Now, you can access the motherboard of the machine. Find the power supply unit toward the back of the machine. Before working on the power supply, remove your ESD strap. Even when the machine is not plugged in, the power supply will hold a charge. Remove the main power connector of the power supply unit, or PSU, from the motherboard. This will now let loose any residual charge from the PSU. Remove the two Torx screws from the corners of the power supply and gently lift it up. Replace the old power supply with your new power supply. Replace all the Xbox elements and test the power supply.
