Great news for Call of Duty fans keen to extend their trigger-happy association with gaming’s juggernaut first-person franchise—publisher Activision has confirmed it will soon be offering up a fresh burst of downloadable content (DLC) for Black Ops.
Already the quickest-selling entrant in the Call of Duty franchise, the Cold War action of Black Ops is set to increase its exposure yet further when the ‘First Strike’ pack arrives on February 1 of 2011. Attached to a price of $15 USD, First Strike will offer up four multiplayer maps and a single zombie mode map.
Two regular maps will be set across existing Black Ops locations Hong Kong and Arctic Circle, while the other two will be brand new—with one set around the Berlin Wall, the other in an ice hockey stadium. There’s no word yet on the zombie map.
While the prospect of more Black Ops will undoubtedly thrill series fans everywhere, only Xbox 360 owners will be enjoying First Strike upon release due to a timed exclusivity deal existing between Microsoft and publisher Activision.
Activision has not said when the content pack will be coming to PlayStation 3 and PC. That being said, prior release history would suggest rival platform owners will probably have to wait around a month.
The announcement of First Strike comes after Black Ops officially held off the challenge of FIFA 11 and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit to become festive number one in the UK, where the game has sold three million copies since release.
