Fyygame buying guide: Nintendo DS or DSi

DSi: An enhanced version of the popular DS system that's kept us playing for years, the DSi adds a bunch of new features to the mix including larger screens, two digital cameras, built-in storage for downloaded games, an SD card slot for techies, and most importantly -- enhanced online capabilities. At cost of $184.89, the DSi will not only allow you to play any existing Nintendo DS game already on the market, but also all-new downloadable games unique to the DSi's online service.

DSi XL: This super-sized version of the DSi system is different from its smaller sibling in two ways: its tremendous size and its slightly higher price. You get a system with larger screens and a bulkier size, best for gamers who are less likely to game on the go: this is a perfect option for those that simply like to toy around with the system in the comfort of their home.

DS Lite: The Lite is slightly smaller than the DSi, and is compatible with Game Boy Advance games. However, if you want to take advantage of the DSi Shop and snazzy games like Flipnote Studio and Shantae: Risky's Revenge, you will want to spring for the DSi.

3DS: In 2011, Nintendo will release its next-generation handheld gaming device, called the 3DS. In addition to providing a glasses-free 3D pocket gaming experience, the new system will boast a huge library of updated classics, an analog control stick, a sharper screen, more power and a load of other enhancements. So if you're thinking of trading up any time soon, you might want to hold off on buying a DSi for the time being.
