Sales may not have been quite as robust as last year, but blockbuster 3D titles such as Call of Duty: Black Ops and Gran Turismo 5 still managed to keep cash registers humming.

2010 also saw the PS3 and Xbox 360 throw down the gauntlet to the market-leading Nintendo Wii in a big way. The arrival of Microsoft's ground-breaking Kinect gesture-recognition games controller and Sony's PlayStation Move have changed the game, opening up new and exciting ways to play.

With another year almost under our belt, GREG THOM looks at what's in store for 2011.

Mega-hit franchise latest tracking humanity's battle for survival against a rampaging subterranean alien horde is tipped to be a star performer.

5 - DEAD SPACE 2
Follow-up to one of the creepiest games of 2008. Promises to ramp up the scare factor in a big way.

6 - SUPER MONKEY BALL FOR 3DS
Brings 3D to life without the need for special glasses. Those who have been lucky enough to get hands-on with the device say it has to be seen to be believed.

7 - LEGEND OF ZELDA: SKYWARD SWORD
The latest instalment in the long-running and much loved Legend of Zelda series, turns Nintendo's Wii Motion Plus game controller into a highly effective on-screen sword.

8 - KIRBY'S EPIC YARN
The little pink puff-ball's first console outing since Nintendo 64 sees him as animated yarn amid an interactive world of textiles. Our hero can transform into anything from a car to a submarine.

9 - BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY
Follow-up to one of the darkest and biggest-selling games of 2009. Pull on the cowl of the caped crusader to tackle rampant crime.

10 - UDRAW
Nintendo Wii. Highly innovative tablet device that comes with a pen-like stylus. Create artwork and play games such as Pictionary on a TV screen for the first time.
