Great discount :Wii controller

Nintendo Wii has the most unique Wii controller of any console of all time. Known as the Wii remote, it more resembles a TV remote control than a typical games paddle. At first glance it seems like a very simple device without many buttons, seemingly too few to adequately play modern games with. First impressions are very deceiving.

The Wii remote has motion sensors inside it, meaning that simply waving the controller in the air is a means of input in itself. The Wiimote also features force feedback, meaning events in the game can cause it to rumble for a more immersive feeling. It also has its own speaker, allowing for a depth of sound never before heard on any console.

Experienced PC gamers will know that the only way to control certain types of games is using the mouse. Up until now games consoles haven't been able to compete with their clumsy controllers, most notably on first-person shooter (FPS) and real-time strategy (RTS) games. The Wii remote is the only controller for a console which can match and even surpass the effectiveness of a mouse.

The Wii is not all about games though. When powered on the Wii interface will include Wii Channels, a gateway to interactive features and using the Internet. The Wiimote is an intuitive pointing device suited well for this purpose as well.

When needed the Wiimote can be coupled with a second device to hold in your other hand. This second device features an analog stick and its own motion sensors that are independent from the main Wiimote. This is effect gives the user '2 hands' in the game, allowing for great ways of interaction.

Black Ops Glitch Confirms No Xbox Live Chat For PS3

PS3-DualShock-3-Wireless-Controller-Game Accessories

As eagle-eyed snipers will already know, Call of Duty: Black Ops 1.06 patch went live on the PS3 this week. Mostly introducing some game balancing tweaks and stability enhancements, the update also seems to have turned your PlayStation 3 into an Xbox 360.

Case in point. Check the below image where one PS3 user was informed, not surprisingly, that they do not have access to “Xbox Live party chat.” They also don’t have the ability to play “teh Haloz”, but we reckon they already knew that.
Apparently the glitch has already been nuked at the server end, so don’t expect to ever see this again. That said, this is the internet, where nothing embarrassing is ever forgotten.

How To Copy Ps3 Games To Hard Drive

The Sony PlayStation series, often shortened as the PS series are a set of video game consoles that have been developed and produced by Sony Computer Entertainment. Their development makes them very popular among teenagers and also adults as well, especially the PS3 games. There is no doubt that Ps3 has revolutionized the gaming industry and has quickly become one of the most successful gaming systems to hit the shelves. However a lot of people are wondering if they can copy PS3 games to hard drive so the original game can be kept away in a safe place. Is it possible? Trust me, it is possible. Then how to copy PS3 games to PS3 game HDD? You will find the answer in this article.

It used to be a difficult and complicated job to copy PS3 games to PS3 game HDD. But now, it is another story. With a specialized copying software, it is no more hard and in fact is quit simple to copy PS3 gams. You must have burned a music CD or DVD using bundled software that often came with the computer. Actually copying PS3 games to hare drive basically need you to take the same steps.

Here is a brief rundown of what one would do to copy ps3 games.

1. Insert the original game disk and start the game copying software.

2. Make a few clicks and options. Click open the 'Tool bar' option. Then click open the 'Mode' and 'ISO' options that are in the 'tool bar'. After the ISO option has been opened, click on the 'read' option that is available in the ISO option. Then click on the 'decrypt' option so that the total game is copied on to the hard disc of your computer.

3.Replace the original game disk with a blank DVD disk. Then click the 'write' option. There will pop-up a window where you need to select the PS3 game file that has been earlier saved on to the hard disk of your computer. After you have selected the game file, click the write option.

4. Remove a freshly copied backup disk when indicated.

You see it is easy to copy PS3 games to PS3 game HDD and can be completed within these 4 steps. No matter which copying software you choose to copy PS3 games, the copying procedure is almost the same. Most of copying software packages provide you with a detailed instruction and even video to help you in case you have any problem during the copying process.

Xbox 360 Kinect USB Extension

Out of the Box

Recently I was able to get my hands on one of the new Xbox Kinects. For those who don't know the Xbox Kinect is Microsoft's answer to the Nintendo Wii and PlayStation Move. It is essentially a camera that you mount above or below your TV and it senses your movements then translates them into movements in your video game. For instance, in a driving game you take put your arms in front of you and pretend to drive a car. It works alright for the most part but it does take a while to get use to. However one problem that I have run into with the Kinect is the way you connect the Kinect to your TV (No pun intended).

Cable Troubles

The Xbox Kinect comes out of the box with a 9 foot cable. This is a slight problem with the way my Home Theater is set up. See my home has the TV Mounted on the Wall and I have my Xbox elsewhere in a near by closet. This is much further then 9 feet.

After looking around for a way to extend the cable, most of what I was finding was the Microsoft branded extension cable that will run you about 50 dollars and it is only 10ft extension. Still not good enough for my needs. So I started looking at USB extension cables. The Xbox Kinect, when you purchase it on its own, will come with a USB converter cable that turns the special Kinect cable into a USB connection. So I started trying out a few different extension cables that I had available to me.

Active and Passive USB Extensions

I first tried out a standard 6 foot Passive USB extension. This did not work what so ever. The Kinect would not recognize that it was even plugged into the Xbox. I then tried out an active extension cable. I used a Sewell 16ft Active Extension cable (you can get them at various places but I find this one to be the best deal)

After testing the Active extension cable it worked great. After plugging it in, the Kinect fired right up and the Xbox recognized the Kinect instantly. The guys at Sewell say they have tested it with these 16ft cables while daisy chaining them all together and have said it works. They even have a YouTube showing how it works.

Bigger Does Not Always Mean Better...

I also was able to try a 33 foot active extension cable and it did not work. For some reason you can daisy chain the 16 foot extensions together but the 33 foot extensions do not work. Most likely it needs the active repeaters to be at those 16 foot intervals or it cant keep the signal constant. So if you need to extend your Xbox Kinect grab yourself a couple USB Active Extension cables and you should be fine.

Note: Make sure that you have the USB connection on your Kinect and not the special Xbox Kinect connection, if you have one of those and not a USB, then you will have to buy the converter or just go for the expensive Microsoft cable.

Also if you have a PlayStation Move, these also connect via USB so you can use the same cables for those as well. Sewell Direct has a video of testing them with the Move and it seems to have the same limitations, you have to use the 16ft extension cables and not the 33 ft extension cables.

PS3 HDD Replacement Mini-Guide

You will need:

1 NOTEBOOK 2.5MM HDD SATA ANY SIZE (We recommend staying with the same RPM as the PS3 game HDD, 5400RPM. You can upgrade to 7200RPM, of course, but we cannot promise that it will not have ill-effects on your machine.)

1 MINI PHILLIPS HEAD SCREWDRIVER
1 MINI FLATHEAD SCREWDRIVER
1 SOLID PLACE TO WORK

We cannot stress enough the importance of buying the correct PS3 game HDD. If you get a regular old IDE Notebook drive, you will be out of luck, so make sure you order the right part.

The first step is to find the PS3 game HDD Bay on your Playstation 3. It is located on the left side of the console, and it is marked with PS3 game HDD. Easy enough. Use your flat head screwdriver to pop off the plastic cover.
You now have access to the actual PS3 game HDD caddy.

The next step is to remove the blue screw that holds the PS3 game HDD caddy in place using the Phillips head screwdriver. Once you have done so, flip up the metal handle that is on the front of the caddy, and slide the PS3 game HDD towards the FRONT of the Playstation 3 to dislodge it. Once you have done so you canremove the PS3 game HDD tray.
Once you have access to the tray outside the PS3, you can take out the 4 screws which hold the original PS3 game HDD in place, and swap in your new 2.5MM SATA Notebook HDD.

Once the new PS3 game HDD is secured in the PS3 game HDD caddy, you need to place the caddy back inside the PS3 unit, and slide it toward the REAR of the console to lock it in place. Once you have done so, the final step is to use your Phillips head screwdriver to replace the blue screw which anchors the PS3 game HDD caddy to the Playstation 3. Pop on the plastic cover, and boot up the console.

How to Backup Your PS3 Hard Drive

ps3-games-hdd-Game Accessories

When backing up your PS3 game HDD, there are some things that you need to consider and plan for. PS3 backup doesn't take a lot of time and it can save you some major headaches in the future, learn what you need to know here.

Backing Up Data

Over the life of your system, there may be a time when it is necessary to back up your PS3 hard drive upgrade (hard drives don't always last forever). Perhaps you want to backup PS3 games, or just your normal data so you can replace your hard drive.

Maybe you plan on sending in your PS3 for repairs, or it could just be the 200 hours you spent completing those latest PS3 games to 100%. No matter what your reason is, a PS3 backup can be done fairly easily if you know what you are doing.
Before you start, there is one big choice you have to make about what device to use when doing a PS3 backup for your data. You have two options: use an external hard drive or a flash drive.

Using an External PS3 game HDD Upgrade

An external PS3 game HDD upgrade will allow you to back up your entire PS3 ([Settings]>[System Settings]>[Backup Utility]>Back Up), but if you don't have one already it is a large extra investment for something that you will only do once. If you do decide to go this route, the external hard drive will need to be formatted to the Fat32 file system. You can use your computer to format your external hard drive, but it will wipe any existing data you have on the drive.
However, if your external hard drive size is over 32 GB, you will need to use a third-party program to format it to Fat32. To make it simple, you are going to want to start with an external PS3 game HDD that is formatted correctly to ensure that your PS3 backup works the first time.

Using a Flash Drive for PS3 Backup

Flash drives are cheap to buy and more useful on a daily basis, but you will not be able to move over any themes, setting preferences, or sign-in information during a PS3 backup. You also have to copy over files manually and may find yourself going between your PS3 and PC to offload files multiple times if you decide to move your movies or music collection. Do not forget to back up your PS3 games saves, as they contain all the blood, sweat, and tears that you probably do not want to have to relive. Neither PS3 backup option you choose will allow you to copy your game downloads, so those will have to be re-added.

After everything is said and done, you can now rest easier knowing that your data is backed up for your Playstation 3.
What Next?

If you are backing up your data to make a PS3 game HDD upgrade, here is a guide about how to replace the PS3 hard drive. No matter which way you choose to go when doing a PS3 backup, there is a lot you really can do to backup PS3 games that you don't want to lose. Just make sure that you are comfortable doing it or that you have someone help you that knows how to do a PS3 backup the right way or you run the risk of losing all of those PS3 games that you just beat.

Upsize your PS3 hard drive

ps3-games-hdd-Game Accessories

It doesn't matter if you have the 20GB, 40GB, 60GB, 80GB or even the 160GB PlayStation 3--you can always use more storage space. All that available harddisk space quickly disappears once you start downloading games, demos, and HD videos. Fortunately, Sony has designed the PS3 to allow console owners to perform their own PS3 game HDD upgrades. You can go out and select your own hard drive instead of being forced to buy an official first-party harddisk accessory. However, giving console owners that freedom means aspiring upgraders will need to know how to select the right hard drive upgrade and the proper installation technique.

The first step to replacing the harddisk is going to the store or visiting an online retailer to pick up a new harddisk. The PS3 is compatible with just about any 2.5-inch SATA notebook harddisk. The physical size of the harddisk is important because it has to fit the PS3's 2.5-inch drive tray. As far as storage capacity goes, it doesn't make sense to go through the trouble of upgrading unless you go big: We're talking 250GB, 320GB, 500GB or even 1TB.

Once you have your upgrade drive, the next step is to backup the data on your current PS3 hard drive to an external storage unit. You can skip this step if you aren't attached to your music, videos, and game saves, but most of us will probably want to save all that information. The PS3 has a built-in software backup utility that can copy the PS3's hard drive contents to an external storage device, such as a USB thumb drive or a Memory Stick. The removable storage device must use the FAT32 file system in order for the PS3 to recognize it. If you have an external hard drive that's formatted in NTFS, you can use the Disk Management utility in Windows to reformat the drive, but you'll need to create partitions on large external hard drives because Windows can do only FAT32 on drives 32GB or smaller.

Virtua Tennis 4 Supports Kinect

Segas has confirmed that their upcoming tenis title – Virtual Tennis 4 – will fully support the Kinect Sensor when it ships this spring. Sega hopes that the newly announced motion controls will give players “a new level of realism not seen before in a tennis game”. The inclusion of Kinect enabled controls wasn’t the only Virtual Tennis announcement.

Sega also gave gamers a taste of the roster and modes available. Virtual Tennis will feature a career mode with developing stas that change over time in the World Tour Mode. The online multiplayer will feature both casual and ranked competitive play. They hope that these modes will help players develop their skills. Tennis fans can look forward to step on to the court as Juan Martín Del Potro and Fernando Gonzalez.

Kinect and the Power of Big Broadband

Whichever way you slice it, I am not much of a fan of Microsoft products. Sure I like the Microsoft Office for Mac, but beyond that, I don’t think any Redmond-based products make much of an impact in my daily life. That was up until Microsoft introduced Kinect and its motion-capture technology that is in equal parts astounding, joyful and amazing.

To say I am besotted with it would be an understatement. Kinect, which on its own is pretty awesome, becomes even more powerful when it’s married to an Internet connection. The higher the speeds, the more the possibilities. Ironically, this seemingly fun technology is also showing us the need for bigger broadband pipes and the possibilities that raw speed can open up.

Today, many believe there isn’t much needed for pipes that go beyond 25 – 40 Mbps, contending that those speeds are good enough for surfing the web, Facebook-ing, Tweeting, emails and watching Netflix. If one has to understand why we need bigger pipes we need to think differently, and imagine new uses. As Albert Einstein once said: “The specific problems we face cannot be solved using the same patterns of thought that were used to create them.”

Tomorrow’s problems, and thus the opportunities are illustrated by some of the recent hacks around Kinect. Fredrik Ryden, a student at University of Washington developed a piece of software that allows Kinect to create 3-D maps of a patient’s body which can be used in tandem with force feedback technology and medical robots for surgeries.

“For robotics-assisted surgeries, the surgeon has no sense of touch right now,” said Howard Chizeck, UW professor of electrical engineering. “What we’re doing is using that sense of touch to give information to the surgeon, like ‘You don’t want to go here.’” “We could define basically a force field around, say, a liver,” said Chizeck. “If the surgeon got too close, he would run into that force field and it would protect the object he didn’t want to cut.”

This could also be used for remote surgeries, Chizeck contends, but broadband speeds would need to be faster in rural areas that might see the most benefit and most importantly, latency would have to be at 1 millisecond or less according to Cisco. And Chizeck isn’t the only one who is excited. A team from MIT Media Lab has developed a new tool that makes it possible to use Kinect to stream holographic video.

Right now, the system takes data from Kinect, and using an off-the-shelf laptop, streams an image over an Internet connection which is decoded on the receiving machine using three commercial graphic processing units. Currently, the data is sent at a frame rate of 15 frames per second, but in the near future, it will hit 24 frames per second.

The set-up generates about 1.5 gigabytes of data per second, which means it needs a really fat brand pipe to transmit the information. Given that you need a special holographic display, it would be a while before this technology becomes mainstream, but it does show you possibilities.

Kinect, also validates Einstein’s other astute observation– “Play is the highest form of research.”

Mass Effect 2 PS3 corrupting save files

PS3-DualShock-3-Wireless-Controller-Game Accessories

BioWare is currently investigating complaints from a concerning number of Mass Effect 2 PS3 players reporting that their save files have become corrupt.

Skimming over various posts on the official forum, it appears the game crashes unexpected, forcing you to restart the PS3, only to find that your save file has been corrupted and you're unable to continue.

Even more alarming, players report that creating a new save file every time you save doesn't help because when one file is corrupted the lot go with it.

BioWare producer Jesse Houston has posted a request for help tracking down the issue. That post below:

Specifically if you can say:

1> where the crash occurred that caused the save to become corrupt (ie loading from Horrizon to the Normandy or Right after the fight with the Yahg)

2> How many levels in a row you played beforehand (Ie you played through the prologue through to Horizon in a single sitting)

3> How long you were playing concurrently beforehand (ie you had the game running for 40 hours straight without rebooting the console)

PS3 Jailbreak shown running copied game

PS3 hackers have shown a full PlayStation 3 game running off the console's hard drive. The hacker's game of choice was Konami's Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

Earlier this week, Jailbreaker GeoHot posted a video showing homebrew software working on a PS3 jailbreak, running Firmware 3.55.

The image released here seems to suggests that the PS3 console recognises the title as a PlayStation Network game.

Although the process is described as beyond the capabilities of 'normal' gamers it's likely that intrepid code monkeys will work tirelessly to overcome this.

Sony released Firmware 3.55 last month, calling it "a minor update that adds a security patch", however it hasn't addressed the current hack directly.

The platform holder believes that it will be able to fix the latest security breach with new network updates.

MultiMAN 1.14.00 - Syscall36 - No More Lv2 Patch

PS3-DualShock-3-Wireless-Controller-Game Accessories

Deanrr has brought us a very important new feature to his popular multiMAN application. Today, marked by the release of 1.14.00, is the end of using the LV2 patch to run multiMAN. Dean has now implemented a stable syscall36 function. That's right, just click on multiMAN and play! Other great additions to this great app is the ability to download updates without the use of a USB stick, a new Update/Cover download server, and a new format to options.ini. This is definantly a much, much needed version of multiman - so go on - Get It Now!

* multiMAN v1.14.0 is a stand-alone install no prior installs reguired. If you have never installed multiMAN, use the Mega Pack to get all the extra's (covers & themes) installed, otherwise use the base package.

* multiMAN v1.14.0 should not require you to run Lv2 v/any! Do not run before multiman! You should only need Lv2 for Fix Permissions. I would restart the system after running Lv2.

* Delete prior install before installing.

Features:

* Implemented syscall36
* User defined options.ini (options_default.ini) to set various options
* Copy/backup progress bar
* Support and display for 7 devices (HDD/USB/BD/SDHC/MS/CF)
* Support for REMOTE PLAY via PSP or other compatible peripherals
* Animated icons and backgrounds
* Update check/download feature with [R3] button
* Support for COVER.PNG in AVCHD video folders

Rogero Manager v7.9c Released - LV2 Patcher V5 Built In

PS3-DualShock-3-Wireless-Controller-Game Accessories

Rogero has made public his new manager version and it has some goodies included. The new Rogero v7.9c features LV2 Patcher v5 built in (v6 only added a new icon0.png). It also brings us optimized memory management for maximum results with LV2 Patcher.

The new version is 7.9c and includes following changes:

7.9.c - Fixed the integrated Lv2_Patcher compatibility to be exactly the same as the standalone "lv2_v5.pkg".
7.9.c - Optimized the memory management at startup to the maximum for best results with the Lv2_Patcher.
7.9.c - Removed lV2_Patcher startup notification screen for added compatibility when loading payload.
7.9.c - Start the Manager without any USB devices plugged-in & without Game Disc to avoid startup problems.

He also states that this version deletes the game history sent to Sony if you plan to play online. Quoting from PSX-SCENE:

"yes, both packages (Stealth & standard) have the "clean history" function triggered at each startup, the stealth package have also the Title ID spoofed to an original game ID."

This one has the latest LV2_v5 already pre patched so no need to run the lv2.pkg anymore.

Some might say: Hey the LV2_v6 is the latest one, true, but v6 only added a different icon, so there is no difference between using LV2_v5 or LV2_v6.

EA and Crytek roll out Crysis 2 multiplayer demo on Xbox 360 platform

Feel that craving to step back into the Nanosuit and save humanity from alien attackers? It’s only Xbox Live Gold members who will be able to satisfy the urge and don the Nanosuit in the multiplayer demo of Crysis 2 which has been announced by EA and Crytek. Starting from tomorrow, the demo is going to be accessible on the Xbox 360 in order to give fans an early peek into the forthcoming title.

Played out on the Skyline map, there are two game modes to be tested including Team Instant Action and Crash Site. The former has two teams trying to reduce the numbers in the opposing squad for higher ranks, while players grab control over alien drop pods and keep away enemies in the latter mode. Crysis 2 involves six gameplay modes and 12 maps set in recognizable areas of New York City.

“Crysis 2 offers a fresh, new take on multiplayer – one that will stand out and establish the game as a top contender in the first person shooter genre. The Nanosuit gives gamers a sense of power they have yet to experience in any other shooter and having New York City as a backdrop will present a different type of playground with even more possibilities,” explained Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek.

Up to 50 multiplayer ranks and an array of different upgrades to weapons and the Nanosuit are extended by the title. Those who pre-order this CryEngine 3-powered game will get a Limited Edition copy of the same with bonuses like a camouflage skinned SCAR assault rifle and early access to the Holo Decoy attachment. The last mentioned is a weapon attachment which projects a moving holographic mirror of the gamer.

The treats don’t stop at that; the special edition also features Platinum Dog Tags etched with the player’s multiplayer rank and stats and a Bonus XP award for boosting the rank. Xbox 360, PS3 and PC gamers across North America will get Crysis 2 on March 22, while the Europe release date for this title is marked as March 25.

10 Great Ways to Get More From Your iPad part3

Of course, multitasking is coming officially in OS 4.0. Notes: ProSwitcher (arguably the best jailbreak multitasking app for the iPhone) didn't appear to be optimized for the iPad (yet) at the time of writing. For jailbreak apps, sticking to those that have been reworked for the iPad will help avoid--though not guarantee against--unnecessary hassle.

Other jailbreak apps include iPad-ready versions of Wi-Fi Sync (wireless iTunes syncing), Winterboard (customized themes), and Dashboard (OS X-style widgets). You can also use your iPad with a mouse, run game console emulators and hand controllers, and otherwise do things Apple doesn’t allow. Benefits will grow as the iPad jailbreaking community expands.
Access Your PC Remotely

You just left for the weekend but forgot to copy an important business file (or hilarious LOLcat) to your laptop. Use an iPad to retrieve the content. Several remote desktop-style tools present a live view of the distant computer, letting you control the PC as if you were sitting right there.

Whether you’re reaching across the Internet, or just into the next room, the process isn’t fast enough to play smooth video. So keep searching for that Hulu fix. But most other applications and slow-moving Flash games —such as Farmville—work if you can handle about 10 to 20 frames per second.

Among many choices, I like LogMeIn Ignition (if you want to configure as little as possible) and iTeleport, plus VNC Viewer if you want to manually set it up. You’ll first configure the PC with a server utility (or an option built into the OS) first, then you can connect anywhere.

All three tools offer similar functionality. You’ll zoom in and out with pinch gesture, and mouse around by touching the iPad. Two-fingered taps activate right-click, and other gestures help with the input. iTeleport includes more keyboard options, such as presets to control media applications, but I thought the implementation got in the way.

If you just want to sit back and control a computer hooked up to a TV, Mobile Mouse can turn your iPad into a wireless keyboard, multitouch mouse trackpad, and media remote.

Turn Your iPad into a Secondary Desktop Display

With its big, high-resolution display, it’s a shame to just park an iPad when switching to a computer. Instead, Air Display makes your iPad a second screen for your Mac, extending the desktop. The tool has just been submitted to the App Store and should be released soon; I checked out a beta.

10 Great Ways to Get More From Your iPad part2

That resolution stutters on an 802.11g network, but if you reach a file that’s too big—or just not in an iPad-friendly QuickTime format, including AVI, WMV, ASF, MKV, DIVX, and FLV—you can have the PC remotely convert the clip. Just hit a button from the iPad interface and stream it when ready, or have a speedy PC process it and stream it live. It even supports subtitles and TV output. The iPad can send video to a TV at 1024 by 768 resolution via its Dock Connector to VGA adapter; 576p and 480p with the Apple Component A/V Cable, and 576i or 480i with an Apple Composite Cable .

Connect More Than a Camera

Apple’s iPad Camera Connection Kit does so much more than its stated purpose. Instead of just transferring photos and videos from your camera or SD card, the adapter’s USB port attaches a range of devices.

Many USB keyboards work. The iPad presents a warning that the device isn’t supported (shown left), but if it doesn’t draw much power, you can ignore the message. Volume and media keys usually work, and you can even use desktop commands such as Command-Z. (Don’t forget that the iPad also officially supports Bluetooth keyboards and Apple’s iPad Keyboard Dock).

USB audio devices can work, too--including speakers, headsets, and microphones. If a device draws too much power and balks (as when I connected a Zoom H2 mic and Logitech V20 PC speakers), no problem: just attach the device to a powered USB hub, and connect the hub to the Camera Connection Kit adapter. You can even attach different devices—such as a keyboard and speaker set—at the same time.

Jailbreak for More Features

Apple maintains obsessive control over the iPad, making it less like a computer and more like a media player. But you have an alternative: Jailbreak the iPad, and you can run third-party apps that weren’t approved by Apple.

If you’re willing to jailbreak your iPad (which means voiding your iPad warranty and taking full responsibility for anything that may go wrong), then you can also use the Camera Connection Kit to read USB sticks and SD card directories. (Without jailbreaking, you can already import SD-card videos and photos or attach a Compact Flash reader).

With a bit more fiddling, you can read files from an external USB hard drive. Those are a lot of unnecessary hoops to jump through for such basic connectivity, but it is at least possible. Again, jailbreaking is best left for the tech-oriented or the adventurous.

You would connect the iPad to a computer, run Sprit and then be able to install apps through the Cydia interface. Cydia and iTunes apps coexist, so you can install apps like Backgrounder and Multiflow to enable multitasking (letting you listen to Pandora while working in other iTunes-purchased apps, say).

10 Great Ways to Get More From Your iPad part1

The iPad is loaded with all kinds of features you’ve probably heard about, but look a little deeper, and its extra abilities might surprise you. Some of these secrets are enabled through apps, while some are built into the device already.

You install a utility on the computer and connect with the Air Display System Preference. (It’s Mac-only at launch, but a Windows version is coming.) The iPad then behaves just like an extra screen. You reposition it in the Displays System Preference like a real monitor, in a portrait or landscape view. Although it lags a little when showing video, it refreshes quickly enough for most work. You can even tap on the iPad to click. If you can’t wait for Air Display’s release, you can check out iDisplay now. But this buggy competitor needs an update to match Air Display’s ease.

Stream Movies From Your PC

Even if you bought the largest-capacity iPad, if it can’t fit all of your videos, it’s too small. Instead of trying to cram everything into the device, you can stream videos from a local or online PC. The process has one main caveat; if you bought movies or TV shows from the iTunes store, DRM restrictions block those files. (Podcasts and music videos should work.). But you can watch your own videos or DRM-free downloads without taking up iPad storage.

Of the many options available, I like Air Video the best. (A free version includes the same functions but limits the number of files you can browse in each folder). Similar to competitors, you run a server utility on your PC or Mac in order to route data to the iPad. In my tests, Air Video played most resolutions smoothly, including 720p video files over an 802.11n Wi-Fi network.

Beat the clones! Check if your PS3Key is genuine!

A number of people have contacted us to say that they've bought a PS3Key that doesn't have an Atmel chip inside it. These people are, quite rightly, worried that this will make it impossible to update their PS3Key.

To save you the trouble of removing the PCB from the metal casing to check whether or not your PS3Key is genuine, you can check your serial number through this website using our handy little Validation Tool. You can even register your serial number to your PS3Key account, locking it so that nobody can steal it from you, ensuring you have access to software downloads when they become available.

If your PS3Key did not come with a yellow barcode/serial number sticker, then please contact the place you bought it from immediately!

How to Use PS3 Wireless Controllers

PlayStation 3 is a gaming system offering many features that are significantly different than those of its predecessor, PlayStation 2. One of the largest technological leaps between the two systems is that PlayStation 3 uses PS3 wireless Bluetooth controller, whereas PlayStation 2 used standard, wired controllers. For some users, this leap in technology is a bit confusing.

1. Ensure your PlayStation 3 is properly set up and connected to your television, and that it's functioning properly. If you can't get your PlayStation 3 to start and display its start-up graphics, something isn't hooked up right. You'll need to fix it before you can use your wireless controller.

2. Plug the power cord for the PS3 wireless controller into one of the USB ports on the front of the PlayStation 3.

3. Plug the other end of the power cord into the access port on the top of your wireless controller.

4. Allow the wireless controller to charge, leaving it plugged into the PlayStation 3 undisturbed for several hours to gain a full charge.

5. Disconnect the PS3 wireless controller from the power cord. Press the PS button to start up the PlayStation 3. The PS button is in the middle of the controller. It is clear and displays the PlayStation logo of a letter P and a letter S molded together into one shape.

6. Use the wireless controller to control the PlayStation 3, exactly as you would have with a corded controller for earlier PlayStations.

Gran Turismo Anywhere update coming next month

PS3-DualShock-3-Wireless-Controller-Game Accessories

If you're somehow bored of real racing with real controls, you can go into Gran Turismo 5's B-Spec mode and tell another driver what to do. Exciting, right? While B-Spec mode may not be the best choice when you're actually in front of your PS3 and controller, I think it would kick ass from a web browser while at work.

A tweet from Polyphony Digital head man Kazunori Yamauchi says that the Anywhere feature should be coming in February, and that it should be included with the next game update. With this, you'll be able to control B-Spec mode with your PC or mobile device. You'll be able to send driving commands to a racer, much like a manager would from the pit.

What sucks is that you won't be able to actually complete B-Spec races. This Anywhere mode will have you racing friends from your commands. You won't be able to finish and earn credits and cars, says Eurogamer. That's a shame.

Mapping the World with Kinect

PS3-DualShock-3-Wireless-Controller-Game Accessories

What can't these things do? "Stop making headlines" is apparently the answer, as an enterprising open-source Kinect hacker has taken his Kinect, mounted it to the roof of his car, and driven around with his laptop and his phone's GPS to create a map of the world. Built from a spatial point system, his software outputs a three-dimensional map of the world it views, each point tagged with GPS co-ordinates.

The man behind this modern-day wizardry is a software developer by the name of Martin Szarski, who developed the whole exercise pretty much just to see if he could. By combining work that had previously been done on working out the calibrations required to match up the RPG camera and the depth camera, he was able to work out and assign an RPG colour to each spatial point and, using a bit of voodoo, turn it into a 3D point-map representation.

From there, it was simply a matter of strapping it to the car and driving around. Martin posits that access to the gyroscopes and accelerometers in a phone would provide for less messy mapping, although quite frankly the results are already super-impressive - and the implications for fast-map-generation of game levels quite compelling. Xbox 360 Kinect Hacked for Surgical Robot

A group of graduate students at the University of Washington have modified the firmware and software of the Kinect to guide the actions of surgical robots.

The technology is still in its embryonic stages."For robotics-assisted surgeries, the surgeon has no sense of touch right now", Howard Chizeck, the university's professor of electrical engineering told the newswire. The hack doesn't actually allow surgeons to use Kinect for hands free operations. That's surely some years off yet. What the researchers have done is add force feedback so surgeons have an added sense when performing robotics assisted surgery.

And this is where the Kinect enters the frame, as Chizeck notes that the hacked unit adds the sense of touch and feeds information to the surgeon. The team reckons the set up could save $50,000 on the standard rig used to perform non-invasive surgery. That requires an array of very complex remotely controlled surgical instruments, cameras in tubes and joysticks that are far more convoluted than your bog standard Xbox 360 controller.

That next generation equipment isn't cheap but the surgeons have to rely on tiny video displays to make sure they're not cutting through vital organs.

"We could define basically a force field around, say, a liver," said Chizeck. "If the surgeon got too close, he would run into that force field and it would protect the object he didn't want to cut."

Engineers have been working to integrate gaming's force feedback technology into the robots, translating the tiny bumps - via the Kinect - into larger forces that are felt on the surgeon/operator's end of the link. In order for 'force feedback' technology to work properly, it needs some sort of frame of reference to tell it when the robot is brushing against a bone.

"Originally the group planned CT scans to provide the data, but soon the group got the idea of using a depth camera to provide a more precise picture by measuring infrared light reflected off of the surface. Last month, the group decided to use Microsoft's Kinect, "for obvious reasons."

The news will please Steve Balmer, Microsoft's president, who was quoted on last weekend's edition of BBC Click, when presenter Spencer Kelly interviewed him, as saying that Microsoft is working on modifying the Kinect with firmware updates itself, following the various hacks that programmers have made in recent months.

How to Control a Computer With a Wii Remote

The Wii remote (Wiimote for short) has changed the way people play video games significantly. Whereas it was once necessary for players to rely on joysticks and button combinations to play games, the Wii remote now allows you to control games with a flick of the wrist. Some tech savvy users have even found ways to make it possible to use your Wii remote to control your computer.

1. Ensure that your Bluetooth connectivity is enabled. The Wiimote uses Bluetooth in order to send and receive signals to and from your computer. Calibrating the Wiimote to your PC should be relatively easy. It is done by pressing the sync button in the battery housing on the Wiimote while your Bluetooth device is enabled.

2. Download and install one of the Wii Remote applications, either Wii Remote or DarwiinRemote (see Resources below). Once the application has been installed, double-click on its shortcut to begin the calibration process.

3. Select the type of motion sensor you wish to use. You may choose either IR (infrared) or motion sensing, although WiiRemote also includes the ability to use the nunchuck attachment as well.

4. Adjust the cursor speed to make it comfortable to use. The faster you make it, the more responsive it will be as you move the Wiimote across the plane of the computer screen.

5. Configure the Wiimote buttons to work comfortably. You can use the "Z" trigger or the "1" button for left-clicks while enabling the "2" button for the right-click function. This is the default control layout for both applications.

A New Contender for PS Move Pistols Releasing Soon

PS3-DualShock-3-Wireless-Controller-Game Accessories

Do you like to play shooting games with your PlayStation Move controller, but are dissatisfied with both Sony’s official gun peripherals and third-party offerings? Well another company by the name of Blaze has stepped up and is hoping you’ll buy their take on the accessory instead.

Blaze Europe Ltd. announced their own PS3 Move gun accessory, shown above, it has a much darker-tone than the official Sony offering, and may appeal to those looking for a slightly more realistic look to their motion controller attachments. Access to the controller’s buttons is still allowed, so the main reason for buying this over the other offerings really comes down to personal tastes.

Wipe History v2.0 - Possible Protection From Sony Banhammer

Smokin , has released an app that erases your PS3's log history. The app, Wipe History v2.0, removes any trace of what apps or homebrew were played on your PS3. The thought behind this program, is to run it prior to going online onto the PSN, to remove your play logs from Sony's peering eyes. It is possible that by deleting these logs, it will protect your console from the threat of being banned. To use the app, run it via the XMB, your screen will flicker black and return you back to the XMB as normal.

EraseMe v1.1 Released - Erase and Generate Fake Activity Log

PS3-DualShock-3-Wireless-Controller-Game Accessories

We told you about a handy little app, Wipe History v2.0, that erased your "previously played" history log. The app was used to hide traces of any homebrew that had been played on your system, prior to going on PSN. Today, another dev, Chossy, has taken things a step further, by releasing EraseMe v1.1. This app accomplishes the same thing as Wipe History, it erases your "previously played" log.

However, the dev, Chossy, felt that sending an empty log to Sony, was just as suspicious as sending one filled with homebrew. So in addition to erasing your log, his app also generates a new one, filled with fake games played. It is recommended, that you modify the source code of the program, as to generate a unique list of games played.

Getting started with your Nintendo Wii part2

The Mii is used for games like Wii Fit, where the Mii stands in for you during the game's action. In Wii Sports, for example, your own actions control how well the Mii plays the game at hand.

Choose your controllers

Most Wii bundles come with a single Wii Remote, which is the official name for the Wii's controller. However, the great thing about a Wii is that you can play it with friends. You should decide if you're likely to play the game with a single friend or with a group, so that you can get the appropriate number of controllers. You will definitely want Nunchuk Controllers to go along with your main controllers. Not all games use the Nunchuk, but a lot of the best games do.

The Wii Balance Board goes along with the Wii Fit, which makes your Wii game system a fun way to stay in shape. If you want to use your Wii to help supplement your fitness regimen, then you should definitely consider picking up this additional accessory. You should also check out our list of 3 Wii accessories you can't live without for a few more ideas of some great Wii additions.

Get a few great games

The standard Wii comes bundled with Wii Sports. If you want the quintessential Nintendo Wii experience, there are a few games you should definitely check out first. If you've ever played any of the Mario Brothers titles before, then you should definitely check out New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Mario Kart Wii is definitely a great party game and a lot of fun to play even by yourself.

Play with it

The most important thing to do as soon as you get a Wii is just to play with it. The Wii gaming experience is unlike any other. There's nothing like the experience of waving your Wii controller and scoring points, winning games, and generally having a great time. In addition, there are many games that exist only on the Wii. The best thing you can do to get started is to stick a game in the Wii and start playing.

If you're new to the Nintendo Wii, you might have some initial questions. How do you set it up? How many controllers do you need? Where do you get games? If those questions sound familiar, don't worry. We're here to help.

Setting up your Wii

The first thing you'll want to do when you get your Wii is set up your Wii in its stand. The plastic stand is made up of a boxy piece and a circle and should easily slide together. Plug in the wires according to how your home television system is set up and connect the sensor bar. You can place the sensor bar either below or above your television, using the included adhesive strip to help hold it in place.

Your Wii controller takes two AA batteries that pop into the back. When you start using the wii controller, make sure the Wii strap is firmly connected to your wrist. The news has reported many horror stories of people losing grip on their controllers as they play vigorously with their Wiis, sending the controllers flying through their television screens. So it's fairly important to make sure the controller strap is solid.

The remote controller that comes with your Wii should already be paired (or synchronized) with your console. If it's not, press the red button on the front of your Wii console, and then press the red button on the back of your Wii controller. The blue light on your controller should blink briefly, enabling you to use your Wii.

The first time you activate your Wii, the system will perform an automatic update and ask you for some basic information.

Make your Mii

Once you get fully into your Wii menu, you'll want to create a Mii right away. The Mii is an avatar version of you, but there's nothing saying it has to look like you. You can customize the height and width of your Mii and most of its features. You can also create more than one Mii, populating your own little Mii village inside the Wii.

Call of Duty controlled using Kinect and Wii controllers

Usually when a game’s control method gets hacked it uses one piece of hardware from one console. That’s certainly not the case with this latest Call of Duty controller setup which combines the Microsoft Kinect motion controller with the Nintendo Wii Remote and Nunchuk while the game runs on Windows 7.

Combined, you get a game where the player controls movement with their body and weapon use with the Wii controllers. More specifically, Kinect allows for leaning, ducking, picking up, reloading, weapon changing, jumping, and realistic stabbing actions. The Nunchuk is used for basic movement like walking around, and the Wii Remote allows for precision aiming and gun firing.

Is Kinect coming to Windows?

Earlier this year, Steve Ballmer, the CEO of Microsoft, was asked whether he had plans to release a PC-compatible edition of the Kinect, a popular Xbox 360 peripheral. Ballmer replied only that the Kinect would hit the PC "at the right time." And by the "right time," he apparently meant really soon. As in 2011. According to the tech site Win Rumors, Microsoft is preparing a Kinect software development kit in advance of a Kinect roll-out for the PC.

"Microsoft is set to unveil driver support and a software development kit in the coming months and will allow third-party developers to create titles that utilize the Kinect sensor when plugged into a PC," Tom Warren of Win Rumors writes today. "According to sources familiar with the plans, Microsoft will distribute the drivers under the 'beta' tag." Warren added that Kinect support is expected to be integrated into the next version of Windows.

And why not? Kinect has been a smash hit. As we reported back in November, the motion-sensing peripheral performed especially well during the Black Friday rush and the post-Thanksgiving weekend. At the CES expo earlier this month, Ballmer announced that Microsoft had sold more than 8 million Kinect units to date – well above the original estimate of 5 million units sold.

Kinect's success was in part driven by a solid crop of reviews in the tech press. (Although many critics continue to argue that the Kinect needs better games if it is to succeed in the long-term.) The Kinect, wrote Luke Westaway of CNET UK is "absolutely" fun to play, "so long as you don't mind sacrificing all of the dignity you've spent your whole life accruing.

Playing the Kinect is embarrassing, Westaway added, "but that's a big part of the fun. Similarly, watching your friends flailing around like loonies is a treat not to be missed."

How to Resync a PS3 Controller

Like any wireless gaming system, the PlayStation 3 sometimes needs to have the controllers synced to it to operate properly. The process is simple and takes just a few minutes to complete.

• 1 Connect the PS3 controller. With your PlayStation 3 system powered down, connect the mini-USB --- which is the smaller of the two ends on the cord --- to the slot located in the center of the top of the PlayStation 3 controller. The USB end of the cord should then be connected to one of the multiple USB slots located on the front bottom of your PlayStation 3 console.

• 2 Turn on the PlayStation 3. The console will automatically recognize the connected controller, which you can then use to operate the PlayStation 3. By powering up the console with the controller attached, the two will automatically pair up and sync.

• 3 Shut off the PlayStation 3. Hold down the P button located in the middle front of the controller until a menu appears on your screen asking you whether you'd like to shut down the PlayStation 3, shut down the controller or cancel. Choose the first option and wait until the console powers down. Disconnect the cord from both the PlayStation 3 and the PS3 controller.

• 4 Turn on the console with the controller. Holding down the P button on the controller, wait until the console powers up and the introduction screen appears. Your PS3 controller is now synced with the PlayStation 3 system.

• 5 Troubleshoot your PS3 controller. If the above steps do not work, there is another step to take, according to PlayStation's troubleshooting guide. Straighten out a length of paper clip and then flip your controller over so you are looking at the back of it. There is a small hole in which you can insert the paper clip and reset the controller's settings. Once you do, repeat the steps above to sync your PS3 controller to the console.

Hermes CFW 3.41 Version 1.0 (BETA) Released

Hermes, famous for his payload work, has released his first custom firmware (CFW) today. Unlike the other CFW's available, Hermes decided to release a CFW based off of 3.41 firmware. The firmware basically allows you to jailbreak your console on 3.41 without the need for a PS jailbreak, useful for those not planning to update to 3.55. We must stress this is still a beta release and when flashing a custom firmware there is always a chance of bricking.

PS3-DualShock-3-Wireless-Controller-Game Accessories

Features:

- LV1 patch for undocumented v1_undocumented_function_114 (kudos for flukes1/graf_chokolo) 1 byte, don´t worry! XD

- LV2 peek/poke patch (original from psgroove)

- vsh.self patch to enable .self (same patch as psgroove-hermes_v4B. To launch self requires the payload working)

- nas_plugin.sprx patch to enable packages (same patch as psgroove-hermes_v4B. You can install PSL1GHT original packages but requires
geohot make_self_npdrm without one payload working)

- category_game.xml modified to enable packages (kudos for KaKaRoTo)

With this options PS3 works with Homebrew signed (use make_self_npdrm in the EBOOT.BIN).

Working:

Install payloadhv4.pkg and launch it to load the psgroove-hermes_v4B

NOTE: payload code is experimental. I need to work in the application and the payload to add news features.
don't worry about the source code now: this is a beta test version yet, but the source code will soon available.

How to Use Wireless Controllers for Playstation 3

PlayStation 3 is a gaming system offering many features that are significantly different than those of its predecessor, PlayStation 2. One of the largest technological leaps between the two systems is that PlayStation 3 uses wireless Bluetooth controllers, whereas PlayStation 2 used standard, wired controllers. For some users, this leap in technology is a bit confusing.

1. Ensure your PlayStation 3 is properly set up and connected to your television, and that it's functioning properly. If you can't get your PlayStation 3 to start and display its start-up graphics, something isn't hooked up right. You'll need to fix it before you can use your PS3 wireless controller.

2. Plug the power cord for the PS3 wireless controller into one of the USB ports on the front of the PlayStation 3.

3. Plug the other end of the power cord into the access port on the top of your wireless controller.

4. Allow the PS3 wireless controller to charge, leaving it plugged into the PlayStation 3 undisturbed for several hours to gain a full charge.

5. Disconnect the PS3 wireless controller from the power cord. Press the PS button to start up the PlayStation 3. The PS button is in the middle of the controller. It is clear and displays the PlayStation logo of a letter P and a letter S molded together into one shape.

6. Use the PS3 wireless controller to control the PlayStation 3, exactly as you would have with a corded controller for earlier PlayStations.
