Sixteen stars from Sega's best-selling franchises are brought together in this lighthearted tennis game from developer Sumo Digital. Included are characters from such titles as Jet Set Radio, Space Channel 5, Samba de Amigo, Nights Into Dreams..., Super Monkey Ball, and Sonic the Hedgehog. Each character can compete in four tournaments held on ten themed courts, from Sonic's Green Hill Zone to Out Run's Coconut Beach. Winning matches will unlock an assortment of tennis-oriented mini-games, each with a Sega slant.

The stages in Sega Superstars Tennis PS3 game are put to good use in Planet Superstar games. Each Planet Superstar game is a multi-tiered series of events. In the Jet Set Radio setting, the first event is catching a certain number of spray paint cans thrown at you while dodging cops on, of course, a tennis court. In the second tier, you pick up spray paint of the correct color while hitting tennis bills into an un-filled tag on the other half of the court, using the colored balls and the paint to fill in the tag. The Space Channel 5 event is a singles tournament, catapulting you into fame and fortune. In the Curien Mansion games, you'll find yourself cutting swathes through zombies with tennis ball strikes. The Superstar games are a bit more than mini-games but a bit less than full tennis, making for nice diversions.

One mini-game, for example, involves batting down zombies from The House of the Dead as they stagger and shuffle across the court. Another involves graffiti tagging a court's surface by hitting cans of spray paint. Exhibition matches allow players to pick and choose characters and courts for singles or doubles play, with the latter supporting four-player simultaneous action. While serving up aces and returning volleys, players can listen to multiple tracks of signature Sega tunes recorded in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound.

For fans of Sega/Sonic (and tennis) it's worth a rental or even a buy since it's so cheap now. It has a nice graphical style and is fun to play, especially for younger kids. It had a ton of unlockable mini-games, music tracks and such, enough to keep you busy for a good while.
